What Is a Hunting Lease?
A hunting lease is a private agreement between you and a landowner that gives you access to their property for hunting. You agree on the terms (which species, how many hunters, what season, what price) and you get land that isn't open to the general public.
Most of the land in the United States is privately owned.1 Hunting leases are how modern hunters access the best ground without buying property. What a lease costs comes down to the state, the game quality, and the acreage.

Is it really free to browse?
Yes. Create a free account and browse every listing, save favorites, and set new-listing alerts at no cost. You only pay when you're ready to message landowners and book.
How do I know a listing is legit?
Every listing is reviewed by HLRBO before it goes live, and landowners must verify their phone number before they can message you.
When a lease is completed through LandKey, HLRBO also provides a secure checkout that includes the lease agreement, payment, and other property requirements in one place.
Are hunters screened?
They can be. HLRBO Hunter Verification asks for a government-issued photo ID and a selfie matched against it, then runs a background check through Stripe Identity and Yardstick. Cleared hunters carry a verified badge on their profile, their messages get priority with landowners, and some landowners only lease to verified hunters.
Do I need hunting liability insurance?
That is the landowner's call. Some make coverage a condition of the lease and some do not. Hunters carry their own policy. HLRBO does not include hunting liability insurance in every lease, so check the listing and ask the landowner before you sign.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions renew automatically each year and there is no self-serve cancel today. Email info@hlrbo.com before your renewal date and we'll take care of it. Your access runs through the end of the paid year, and any lease you've already signed stays in place.
Why not just call a landowner myself?
You can, if you can find one, negotiate terms and paper the deal yourself. HLRBO puts thousands of ready-to-lease properties, contracts, and payment in one place.
